Tutors are urgently needed for four Skill Book level 1 students. Please call Elizabeth at 301-610-0030, ext. 210 if you can help.
1. Yollande, born 1991 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has oral French and Lingala. She knows some letters and numbers, but really needs to begin with the intro section of Skill Book 1. She needs to meet twice a week with a tutor at Long Branch Library, or perhaps at the Silver Spring Library. Available Monday through Wednesday between 9AM & 3PM.
2. Jair, born in 1990 in Colombia, South America, has a high school diploma and 2 years of technical training in computer repair. He now works for a construction firm as a painter. He knows a few letters, he knows numbers fairly well, but he has no oral English yet. He needs to meet with a tutor after 7 PM on Mondays through Thursdays twice a week, or perhaps some weekend times, at the Aspen Hill, Wheaton, or Rockville libraries.
3. Lyudmyla, born in 1941 in Ukraine, is literate in Ukrainian, Russian, and a bit of French, but she knows virtually no oral or written English. She was a culinary school teacher and pastry chef who worked for upper-level diplomatic personnel in the Crimean area. Unfortunately, she had some health setbacks in the last year, but is now ready to study what will become her new language. She needs a patient tutor who will assist her with pronunciation, phonics, and initial conversations (at the intro level of Skill Book 1). Available to meet at the Takoma Park Library, or at the new Silver Spring Library, at 10 AM twice a week on weekday mornings.
4. Hai, born in 1962 in South Korea, is a former acupuncturist who experienced health problems and now attends a Korean Adult Day Care Center in Rockville three days a week. He needs to meet with a tutor twice a week at the Rockville Library between 1:30PM & 3PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays so that he can attend his therapy sessions and catch the necessary bus.
