To Get a Tutor:
- You must be 18 or older
- You must live or work in Montgomery County, Maryland
- Priority will be given to those residing permanently in the U.S.
- Call the LCMC office at 301-610-0030
- Monday through Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- A Coordinator will schedule you for an interview appointment at our Rockville office
- You will be charged a $15 one-time registration fee
- You will be matched with a tutor close to your home or work
- Books and the lessons are FREE
To Volunteer as a Tutor
To Enroll in ESL Class:
- You should be at least 16 years old
- If you are under 18 years old you will need to show proof of official withdrawal from public school
- You should live or work in Montgomery County, Maryland
- You should be able to attend class 9 hours each week for 10 weeks
- Attend a Literacy Council ESL Class Orientation to learn more and to be tested for placement level
- Space is limited – please arrive on time - first come, first served
- Please do not bring children to orientation
- Plan to stay for the entire orientation session (about 3 hours)

To find out how to get EFDL at your school
The LCMC welcomes inquiries from schools seeking to partner with us for English for Daily Living. General requirements:
- The school should have 10 to 15 parents sign up and pay a one-time $15 registration fee,
the $15 book and material fee, and provide their registration information a week before class starts.
- School should have adequate classroom space, provide their facilities (including adequate parking) at no charge to the LCMC, and provide secure storage for class materials.
- School should coordinate with parents to support their attendance and provide custodial support for facility access.

To Enroll in the LCMC Computer Lab
Adult students registered in one or more LCMC programs (tutoring, ESL classes, English for Daily Living) are eligible.
- You will need to attend a one-hour training session at the LCMC’s Rockville office.
- The Language Lab is open during the LCMC’s regularly scheduled office hours.

The GED-i course was developed as a flexible means for learners to prepare for the series of GED examinations and earn a Maryland State high school diploma. Interested students must be able to demonstrate minimum 9th grade skills by pre-testing in math and reading. For more information, please visit the Maryland GED-i website at http://www.mdged-i.org/
To schedule GED-i pre-testing at LCMC
To pre-test at the LCMC’s Rockville office, you must first complete the on-line enrollment form at www.mdged-i.org. At Step 3 (Getting Started), select Literacy Council of Montgomery County when asked to “Select a pre-test location”.
After successfully completing the on-line enrollment form, you will be contacted by a Literacy Council staff member to schedule your pre-test.
