Prospective tutors are required to complete an Orientation session and our tutor-training workshop, both of which are offered periodically throughout the year.  The Orientation takes place on a weekday or evening, and the 12-hour workshop is conducted on two Saturdays (usually consecutive), here at our headquarters in the Rockville Library (Click here for directions).  We'll match you with a student, introduce you to that student during the second workshop day, and support you every step of the way during your tutoring experience. 

The City of Rockville will begin charging to park in the garages near the library on March 10, 2008.  Parking enforcement will be in effect from 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  Parking after 7:00 pm weekdays and on the weekend is free.  PATRONS OF THE LIBRARY AND LITERACY COUNCIL WILL RECEIVE TWO HOURS FREE PARKING IF THEY VISIT DURING PARKING ENFORCEMENT HOURS. 

To obtain free parking while visiting the Literacy Council, please follow these steps:

• Park in one of the three Town Square garages:  North Washington Street, Maryland Avenue, or 355

• Remember your parking space number which is painted on the garage floor of your parking space.

• Go to any Pay Station.  Every garage level has at least one Pay Station, generally located near the elevator.

• Enter your parking space number using the keypad on the Pay Station and select the "Purchase Ticket" option on the screen.

• Select "Library - 15 min. Free" option on the screen.

• Receive a time stamped receipt for 15 minutes of free parking.

• Take the receipt and proceed to the Pay Station in the lobby of the Rockville Library. 

• Enter your parking space number and the anticipated amount of time you will be in the Library (one or two hours).

• Receive another time stamped receipt showing your parking space number and the time your free parking will expire (maximum of two hours).  Keep the receipt with you!

NOTE!  Prospective volunteers are required to attend an Orientation session prior to their workshop, and to attend both workshop sessions.

Workshop Fee:   We ask for $25 for participants who will be teaching a LCMC-registered student. This helps us offset the cost of materials for the workshop.
